The top 6 wrestlers at each weight advance to the Area
II Jr. High Tournament on Feb. 15, 2026, at the Altoona High School Fieldhouse.
The top 4 wrestlers at the Area II Tournament advance to the PJW Jr. High State
Championships at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena in Johnstown February 27

Youth Division

weight advance to the Area II Youth Tournament on February 15, 2026, at the Altoona

TOURNAMENT RULES:
1. Entry fee covers entry requirements for the entire tournament and
insurance. Fee is $35.00
2. A wrestler’s age group classification is determined by his/her age on
December 31, 2025. EXAMPLE: A wrestler’s 11th birthday is 1/1/2026.
That wrestler competes in the 10 & Under division.
3. PIAA rules will govern all matches, except as modified by PJW. Headgear
is required in all PJW tournaments.
4. Youth Division championship bouts will consist of three periods of 1-1-1,
for the 8 & Under and 9 – 10 age groups, and three periods of
1:30-1:00-1:00 for 11 – 12 age group. Overtime will be 1:00 - :30, as needed
for all Youth divisions……. Jr .High champion bouts will consist of three
periods of 1:30 each and the Jr. High overtime rules will apply.
5. The PIAA shoelace rule will be enforced.
6. Participants must weigh in at the weight class they have entered.
Entrants not making weight will be ineligible to wrestle.
7. A wrestler may not wrestle outside his/her age group and may enter in
only one weight class. However, a wrestler exceeding the limit for the last
weight class in the 8 & under and 9 – 10 age groups may enter the
appropriate weight class in the next higher age group. All participants in the
Jr. High Division must be eligible to compete for a Jr. High team under PIAA
rules for the current year. However, a wrestler who is not eligible for the 11
– 12 age group, and not yet enrolled in Jr. High (7th grade level),
may enter the Jr. High division. Jr. High eligible wrestlers who are 11 or 12
may enter the Jr. High division or the Youth 11-12 division, but not both.
8. Copies of birth certificates should be made available at all PJW
tournaments to verify age.
9. The sources of rules for PJW tournaments are the PIAA handbook, the PJW
rules book and area rules that apply to the operation of applicable
tournaments.
10. Contestants, coaches and parents are
expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship on and off the mat. Unsportsmanlike
conduct can result in disqualification from the tournament, and/or removal from
the premises. PJW disciplinary action may follow. Contestants are expected to
refrain from damaging or defacing any part of the host buildings or grounds.
Such action will result in eviction from the premises and/or prosecution. Once
again, PJW disciplinary action may follow. Contestants represent PJW while in the
host community; therefore, any misbehavior may result in prosecution and
subsequent PJW disciplinary action. PJW, following established due process, may
vote to withdraw earned honors, and/or suspend the contestant, coach or parent
from future PJW participation.
